Is YPN Closing down?

As we all know here on hubpages that one of the best way to earn little bit of extra money was google adsense. It not only helped make lots of dollars for every blogger but also made many people to start websites and start blogging. Even though the Google Adsense was a big thing , it did have compititors. One of the biggest compititor is Yahoo Publishing Network by yahoo.com. Even though it was only available to the bloggers and publishers from The U S A only but it was good as it not only gave compitition to Google adsense but also gave a choice to American publishers to choose Y P N ( Yahoo publisher Network) if they are not satisfied with Google Adsense or for some reason Adsense has rejected their application for account or closed their account. No one thought Y P N would fail as it came from one the biggest internet company Yahoo.

I was recently surfing the net and found somewhere what Y P N has sent to its publisher. In this letter Y P N clearly tells its publishers that it is closing down with effect from 30 April 2011 and they should make an account with Chitika. Chitika is also a site which put advertisements on your site. So in a way it is compititor to Google Adsense too but their advertisement dont interfear with the policies of Google Adsense so they can be put on the same page as on the page on which you have put Google Adsense ads.

The Letter

Dear Publisher,

Yahoo! continuously evaluates and prioritizes our products and services, in alignment with business goals and our continued commitment to deliver the best consumer and advertiser experiences. After conducting an extensive review of the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta program, we have decided to close the program effective April 30, 2010. We expect to deliver final publisher payments for the month ending April 30, 2010 to publishers no later than May 31, 2010. All publishers eligible for 1099s for the 2010 tax year will have those mailed by January 31, 2011.

Because our content will no longer be delivered to your ad unit spaces after April 30, 2010, we recommend removing all YPN ad code from your pages by that date.

For the opportunity to continue earning revenue, we suggest using Chitika, a leading advertising network that syndicates Yahoo! Content Match and Sponsored Search ads. Chitika has set up a special process for YPNO beta publishers to participate in its platform. Click here for more information.

We thank you for your participation in the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please contact our Support Team at (866) 785-2636, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PDT.

Sincerely,

Your Partners at Yahoo!

What it means?: It means that the biggest compitior for Google adsense is gone now so it effectively gives Google the monopoly of the conceptual advertising market. Google is biggest company in web today and this would make it even bigger and it would be a long time when anyone would come close to give Google some real good compititon.

Google Monopoly, would Google bahve more high headed now?

Did anyone even use YPN? I have incorporated some Chitika ads on a few of my sites, but they just do not compare to the earnings from Adsense! I am lucky to make a dollar for over 500 impressions a day with Chitika, oh well, it's an extra $30/month to go for advertising and investing...

Thanks for this information. Although i do not like or use Yahoo, they are the only option for me to receive email through AT&T. I would not be broken hearted if both of these entities went out of business forever.

Hi outdoorguy & D.william,

No i didnt use YPN as i am indian and non US citizen are not allowed to participate in YPN . This is not my hub which is better, even if YPN didnt match google, it was still giving them compitition and people who have been kicked or not approved by Google had an alternative.

Sweetie, My concern here is that the letter is dated last year March 2010 and I have not received any notice. Which would have been received by January 2011... I assume they changed their minds? As a matter of fact they recently purchased Associated Content and brought them into their contributors network...

Thank you for bringing this letter to our attention.

Peace & Blessings!

HI DeBorrah K. Ogans , Thanks for the comment and i got this letter from a friend of mine in USA. I dont have a YPN account as YPN is only for americans. I hope they dont close down so people still have alternative to google and Adsense has some compitition.

Thanks Pertibha,

I got the letter from someone in usa who has YPN account and got this letter from Yahoo. Anyways you have to be American to apply for YPN, so it was useless to us Indians but still it did give some compitition to Google

This is no good news for Ad publishers. The more competition the more benefits bound to come to the publishers.I think Microsoft should open up their Ad network to everyone.
