How to Protect eyes
Eyes are one of the most precious gift of God. With eyes you can see not only the beauty of the world but also the beauty of your loved ones and you can read eyes of the person and know what he is thinking about you. Poets have written millions of romantic poems on eye and Indian movies are full of songs describing the beauty of eyes of beloved. So it is imperative that we take care of our eyes so they last as long as our rest of body. These are few tips which would help a person taking care of his eyes.
1. Protect your eyes: Always take care to avoid injuries to eyes as even a small injury can lead to blindness or white spots in the eye which can lead to glaucoma or other eyes diseases. So always wear protective glasses while playing sports or engaging outdoor activities where chances of injury are high. If you are driving a two wheeler like motorcycle, cycle. Scooter etc always wear eye protective gear because not only some hard object can hit your eye but also lots of mosquitoes can get in your eyes.
2. Give enough rest: Eyes get tired very easily. Especially if you are on computer most of the time then there is lots of strain on the eyes. Give your eyes a lot of rest when doing reading or computer for a long time. The eyes also go dry so 15-15-15 is best way. Every 15 minutes look away for 15 seconds away from computer and blink 15 times to make eyes moist again.
3. Watch your tummy: Now you ask me what does weight has to do with the eyes? Well my friends with weight there can be other metabolic and physical problems like diabetes and blood pressure which are both very harmful for the eyes. Diabetes is a known biggest cause of blindness in India.
4. Diet:Like Rest of the body eyes also need a well balanced diet. Eat lots of green leafy vegetables for the eyes like Spinach, mint, coriander etc, also certain fish like Solomon and Tuna which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids are very beneficial to eyes. Regular healthy diet coupled with weight control and exercise is very important to eyes.
5. Regular Check Up: Just like you would visit your dentist every 6 months for your dental check up , similarly you should visit Ophthalmologist ( Eye Doctor) every 6 months or so. This is important because if your eyes start going weak then they can be detected early and corrected with small power lens. Most of the time people don’t visit doctor till the number is over 2. Also in old age if checked regularly diseases like glaucoma may be detected at very early stage when it is very easy to treat them.
6. Fashion Wear: Doctors like people who wear good quality sun glasses in the Sun. These not only protect eyes from the glare of the sun but also help them from sun’s uv rays. So always Check UV protection of the sun glasses when buying them. Make sure they are protecting your eyes 100% from both UV- A and UV-B radiations.
7. Contact Lens: Avoid wearing them for more than 19 hours at a stretch as they can not only cause extreme discomfort but also permanent eye damage.

This is a wonderful hub with great information. People should wear sunglasses like they do sunscreen - every day. My eye doctor suggested keeping eye drops for dry eyes by the computer. We don't blink when on the computer and the eyes get dry. As a matter of fact the drops are called Blink!
Thanks for a healthy Hub. I have a habit of using eyedrops to keep my eyes from being tired.

The contacts that I am wearing are "Air optic night and day" I can wear a lens for a month without taking it out, then it is thrown away. It is the first contacts that I have been able to wear comfortably. My problems with other contacts are probably special to me because other people do not generally have trouble. I did write a hub about my experience with cataracts.
Thank you sweetie for a useful and informative hub, our eyes are so precious, voted up.
Great advice. I've been using contact lenses for about 10 years. The technology keeps getting better and better. Now there're certain types of contact lenses that we can wear even when we're asleep. I haven't tried them yet but I'm pretty sure I will. :)
