Your pet and your guests

If you are a pet owner then the biggest problem in throwing a party is your pet. Not all people are pet lovers and many are plainly afraid or allergic to pets. Some even can not stand your pet. So what can we do when we have to throw a party as few people like my dad love to party every few days. Over the years we have learnt to do some things in advance which would help us organise a better party and make both guests and our pet happy.

I thing i have learnt that most guests have problems with only one pet and that is dog. They are quite cool if you have a cat or say cattle. Because dogs can bite and can be ferocious and also they may not like thier small children in a place where there is an unleashed unfamiliar canine roaming around. I feel their fear is justified as any parent would not want any harm how small it might be done to their children.

Tips for a better party

1. Inform Guests: Make a point to inform all your guests in advance that you have a dog at home. So they come mentally prepared. Also tell them that your dog would just sniff them so he familirise with them . He means no harm. They should relax and if they feel like they can talk to him in cheerful mood as dogs are perfect in realising the difference between fear and love. Also they should pat him on his back and if they want massage from back to front. This is what dogs like most. They shouldnt touch his forehead or nostrils. Even after all this if any of your guest is still petrified then it is always better to either not invite that guest or keep the dog away.                                                                               Continue reading.....

1.       Seprate room: If there are lots of children in your party then it is always better to keep the dog in seprate room as you know children sometimes can be very rough with the pet and they can start  hounding your pet. In that case it is but natural for your dog to get aggressive and bite someone. Also he can turn aggrasive to all your guests in that party or in future parties because of this experience.

2.       Allergic guests : If you know that even one guest is allergic to pets then make sure you pet does not come in the party area. Vaccume your sofas and every thing in the party area good and there should be no hair or anything of dog left there as this can cause serious respiratory allergy to the guest who has allergy.

3.       Dog behaviour: If your dog is attention seeker then do lead him away after sometime as it can be a big nuisance for everyone. It is not always positive attention but dogs are quite capable of getting negative attention too. For them any attention is good attention, so long they get attention. If your dog begs then ask your guests to ignore him as this is also done to get attention.

4.       Feeding :  Request your guests not to feed your pet.  Guests have habit of giving things to dog from the food and play with it but this can lead to problems as dogs shouldnt be given sweets or sugars , it can effect their health . Also it can make all the hard work you did to decipline your dog . Chocolates and other foods like it can even cause renal failure for dogs.

5.       After party: Make sure what ever is left, ie bones, food or any thing else, dog doesnt get hold of them as it can again lead to serious health problems. Vets in India these days discourage owners to give  bones to dogs as a sharp piece can injure his mouth or intestine and may even cause blockage.

I think that if we take care of these small things than it is so easy to throw a party and keep  both your guests  and your pet happy and safe.
